A made-to-measure book
Isabella or Bella? A personalised book that answers to both
Isabella is four syllables of royal history; Bella is what she's called at the school gate. A story written around her can use the full name for the big moments and the short one for the everyday ones — just like her family does.

Here's how a book for Isabella could look
Pick a theme, upload a photo, and your child becomes the hero of the story — with their name on the cover and inside.

Why Isabella suits a storybook so well
Few names carry two personalities as neatly as Isabella. Written out in full on a cover, it has the weight of a queen's name — it fills a title line and looks properly bookish in large lettering. Inside the story, though, most Isabellas are rarely called that. They're Bella when someone's calling them in for dinner, Izzy among friends, and Isabella only when a parent is being formal — or when she's in a spot of trouble.
A personalised story can play with exactly that. The narrator can introduce Isabella by her full name at the start of an adventure, then let a friend or a grandparent call out "Bella!" at the moment of rescue. Because the story is written directly in English rather than translated, the name sits naturally in every sentence, possessives and all — Isabella's map, Bella's football, Izzy's fox.
The length of the name matters too. Isabella has a gentle rhythm, with the stress falling on the third syllable — iz-uh-BEL-uh — so it reads aloud smoothly at bedtime, even when it appears on every other page. Children who are just learning to read often recognise their own name first, and a long name like this one is a satisfying word to spot and sound out on a page.
Where the name Isabella comes from
Isabella is, at its root, the same name as Elizabeth. It began as the Hebrew Elisheba, usually translated as "my God is an oath" or "pledged to God". In medieval southern France and Spain, Elisabeth was reshaped into Isabel, and the Italian and Latinised form Isabella followed. So an Isabella and an Elizabeth are, strictly speaking, namesakes — just from different corners of Europe.
The name travelled through royal families. Isabella I of Castile, who ruled in fifteenth-century Spain, is the most famous bearer, and Isabella of France became Queen of England in the fourteenth century as the wife of Edward II. For centuries it remained a name for princesses and noblewomen before spreading more widely.
The ending is where many people hear a second meaning. In Italian and Spanish, bella means "beautiful", and although that's not where the name actually comes from, the connection is part of its charm and the main reason Bella feels like such an obvious nickname.
In Australia, Isabella has been one of the most consistently popular girls' names of the past two decades, regularly appearing near the top of state birth registries. Part of the surge around the late 2000s is often linked to Bella Swan from the Twilight novels and films, which gave the short form a pop-culture moment of its own. Even so, the name has outlasted that trend and stays a favourite with Australian families of Italian, Spanish and Anglo backgrounds alike — one of those names that feels at home in many cultures at once.
Nicknames and short forms of Isabella
- Bella — The classic short form and the one most families settle on. Warm, easy for little siblings to say, and the obvious choice for the story's everyday dialogue.
- Izzy / Izzie — Sporty, cheeky and very common in Australian playgrounds. Works well in a story with football, climbing or anything a bit muddy.
- Issy — A softer spelling of the same sound, popular in Britain and among Australian families with British roots.
- Belle — A slightly old-fashioned, fairy-tale feel — often used by grandparents or in more whimsical stories.
- Bells — A typically Australian affectionate twist, the kind of name a dad or big brother uses.
- Isa — Short and stylish, common in Spanish, Dutch and German-speaking families, and a nice nod to the name's European roots.
- Isabella — The full name, kept for cover titles, birthday cards, dedications — and for when she's being called inside for the third time.

My daughters love the book! We read it every evening before bedtime. The story is so sweet and lovingly written, and the pictures are beautiful. My girls feel really special because their own name appears in the book. A great keepsake forever! Absolutely recommend. ❤️
We got the book as a birthday present and it turned out perfectly. The print quality pleasantly surprised me – hardcover, nice paper and illustrations printed in fine detail. The characters are drawn so well that my daughter recognized her sister, me, the giraffe and herself :) She really likes the story and now it’s her favourite book, we read it almost every evening. On top of that, it will remain a lovely keepsake that she’ll come back to even in a few years. I definitely recommend it.
The book was a gift… I’ll find out how happy it makes them… but it’s very beautiful
I have the books ready as a gift, so I’m already looking forward to handing them over
An absolutely stunning book made to order. It's not only a beautiful gift, but a keepsake for a lifetime. Our sons are thrilled. Not only did they find “themselves” in the book, but the whole story also takes place in their favourite place, which is the ice rink. The whole book is accompanied by wonderful pictures, and the dedication from us, the parents, is just the cherry on top. I warmly recommend it. Not only will all the “heroes of the book” be thrilled, but so will you, as soon as you see the book with your own eyes :)
Our daughter was absolutely thrilled, she looked through it several times in a row and declared that it's pretty, she hasn't had enough of it yet and we read it every day before bedtime.
The book is beautiful and my granddaughter is happy with it.
We are satisfied, my little boy really liked the book too. :)
The book and the audiobook are both great. Minor imperfections were willingly and immediately fixed to my satisfaction. I will definitely buy another one, and I have also recommended it to others..
The book is very beautiful, I would have welcomed more pages (for that price), the story is interesting, because my granddaughter loves animals and her cousins, but I have to wait until Christmas for her reaction
I got the book for a birthday and the princess wouldn’t put it down.
The book is very nice. The pictures look very nice, they're not blurry. The book really made us happy.

Popular questions
Yes. When you create the hero you enter the name you want used. Many families put Isabella on the cover title and use Bella or Izzy throughout the story — or simply choose the short form for the whole book if that's what she answers to.
